In the aftermath of Steve Bannon’s departure from the White House comes increasing speculation that his ally and subordinate, controversial counter-terrorism adviser Sebastian Gorka, may also be on the verge of being ousted.
Inside sources have reportedly talked about his tenuous situation with news outlets including Bloomberg which explained, “The possible dismissal of Gorka suggests that [chief of staff John] Kelly is looking to root out Bannon allies and other officials prone to igniting public firestorms.”
One source told the Daily Beast that Kelly, who has been assessing the duties of some White House officials, “doesn’t know what [Gorka] does except go on TV sometimes.”
Despite his public role as one of Trump’s counter-terrorism experts, Gorka's qualifications have been questioned by experts in the field.
He also may be lacking a security clearance to access intelligence documents and attend national security meetings which observers have pointed out inhibits his ability to participate in key policy discussions.
