Prime Minister Narendra Modi has hailed Supreme Court's historic verdict declaring the practice of instant divorce or triple talaq as illegal and unconstitutional.

Judgment of the Hon'ble Supreme Court on triple talaq is historic. It grants equality to Muslim women and is a powerful measure for women empowerment, PM Modi said.

In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi had praised Muslim women battling the practice of triple talaq and said the entire country supports them.
