The filmer spotted the four-metre snake slithering across the road in Limpopo province and got out of his vehicle to take a closer look.

The female southern African rock python strikes at the filmer several times as he approaches.

It then slides effortlessly up a tree.

The southern African rock python is a subspecies of the African rock python, which is the continent's largest snake.
