Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!
In Nejapa, El Salvador, people take part in an annual cultural festival honoring a volcanic eruption 100 years prior that destroyed the town. A myth claims that the destructive lava from the volcano was actually the result of a local Christian saint who fought the devil with balls of fire.
At the festival, celebrants pelt each other with gasoline-drenched rags that have been rolled into balls. While paramedics are always on standby, only a few serious injuries have been reported in 10 years of celebration.
Pretty remarkable for a fire-throwing festival.
