The theme of season three of Mr. Robot is disintegration. Elliot and Mr. Robot's relationship in season three is a battle of control. It's essentially deterioration of their relationship. Elliot and Mr. Robot part ways in a way that we haven't seen before.
Darlene's in an incredibly tough spot in the beginning of the season because she's essentially cornered. On one side she has the FBI and on the other side she has her brother, and where are her loyalties?
Dom is essentially the white hat version of Darlene. It's interesting to explore not just the conflict between the two of them, but the ways they could overlap and perhaps come from the same place.
Much like Darlene, Angela also has to come to terms with her loyalties, now there are choices that have to be made, and she really has to sort of face the consequences of those choices.
What's great about working with Bobby is that he brings just a very different kind of energy to the cast and to the story, the character is obviously a very different one for the show. Bobby just elevates what's on the page into something that's really exciting and really funny.
Hacking has been around for years, and when we first started doing the show I felt like I was just shining a light on something that I'd already really been very aware of, and that it just wasn't in sort of the public consciousness, as much as it was with me.
The meddling in the election could have been around in prior elections and this one was just finally the public started to become aware of it, it's not that I'm some fortune teller that can predict these things, but that I was sort of tapping into something that I though was already brewing and already there.
The story telling that we can play with Mr. Robot is we always sort of reframe what you think you know is going on, by revealing things that we haven't shown you yet, in doing that there are always going to be these twists and reveals and the unreliability of what you're watching is part of the experience. That's what excites us about telling this story.
