Kayaking to an abandoned film set on an island in Mono Lake, where a miniature fake volcano was built to stand in for Krakatoa in "Fair Wind to Java," a 1953 movie starring Fred MacMurray. See the volcano here:

Much of the fake volcano is still still standing, probably thanks to the efforts of a group of ornithologists/bird watchers who use it as a base camp for overnight stays. A really surreal, cool little campsite in the middle of a beautifully surreal lake!
