Melania is leaving the White House on Tuesday to head to an opioid treatment center in West Virginia. The medical center, named Lily's Place, helps infants who have been exposed to addictive substances in the womb. "To help babies born addicted truly succeed, we must help their parents succeed." Stephanie Grisham, Melania's communications director, told CNN Donald Trump signed an order to establish the President's Commission on Combating Drug Addiction, and he told his administration "to use all appropriate emergency and other authorities to respond to the crisis."
As part of the 2018 budget, Trump also requested $500 million towards the opioid crisis. Grisham also told CNN: "The statistic that 40% of babies born addicted to drugs are put into foster care is one that Mrs. Trump would like to see lowered, and Lily's Place was created with that in mind."
