Google has been tracking Android location data even with tracking disabled

It appears Android users saw their location being tracked even with their location turned off. Quartz has confirmed that Android phones used to send location info to nearby cellular towers, but Google said that the action will cease by the end of November. A spokesperson also said that the tower info, known as Cell ID codes, wasn't being used. The cell tower location data harvesting has been going on for the past 11 months.
