Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told supporters late November 25 she was optimistic Labor would be able to form a government following the state’s election.

“I said winning the 2015 election was like climbing Mt. Everest,” she said. “This election has been like climbing Mt. Everest all over again. Tonight we are close to the peak, but we are not quite there, and we will not get there tonight. But I remain confident that we will be able to form a majority Labor government once all the votes are counted. I am overwhelmed by the support for Labor.”

ABC reported that at close of counting on Saturday night, its election computer gave 43 seats to Labor, 38 to the LNP and two to Katter’s Australian Party and another 10 seats were too close to call. The 93-seat Parliament requires 47 seats for a majority.

Palaszczuk ruled out forming a government with One Nation, which had yet to claim a single seat. Credit: Facebook/Annastacia Palaszczuk via Storyful
