Blank Park Zoo, based out of Des Moines, Iowa, welcomed three new lion cubs on November 14. According to a zoo press release, lioness Neema gave birth to five cubs but two did not survive. On November 20, the surviving cubs had their physical.
Staff had to supplement the feeding of the male cub because he was a week behind in growth, the release said. The other cubs were deemed underweight at the time of birth because of the large litter.
The cubs are currently not available to visitors. Their father, Deuce, arrived at the zoo in 2012 and Neema arrived in June, 2017. The cubs have been spending time with Neema, who has been a “very attentive and protective mother.” Credit: Facebook/Blank Park Zoo via Storyful
