Getting to Uyuni is always an expedition. Tourists from around the world flock here and immortalize their visit with photographs that play with the perspective: on the biggest salt lake in the world, the ground, the sky, and the horizon merge. The Dakar came to Bolivia for the first time in 2014, but for this first occasion, only the bikes did the stage. The Uyuni barracks were transformed into a marathon bivouac. And in 2015, the cars also got the chance to spend some time at altitude. The exceptional expanse was used for a mass start for stage 8. A little more sensitive to the altitude than his rivals, Nasser Al Attiyah suffered, but managed to hold on to the lead in the general classification. The Qatari was on his way to his second Dakar title.
