Emergency services personnel rescued a man and a dog who had fallen through ice in Roscoe, Illinois, on December 11, according to footage published by rescue organization.
The incident happened on the Legends Lake in Roscoe, according to the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District.
The man fell through thin ice while trying to rescue his dog.
A firefighter, Lt. Justin Mayton, “donned a cold water suit and firefighters secured him to a safety rope,” according to an account of the incident posted to YouTube with this footage.
“He then headed out onto the ice with a second kayak that was on scene. He reached the owner of the dog and the dog’s owner was able to climb into the kayak,” the YouTube description of the incident says. “Mayton was then able to reach the dog and he and the dog were pulled back to the shore by the firefighters on the shore. A rope was also then thrown to the owner in the Kayak and he was pulled safely to the shore.” Credit: Harlem-Roscoe Fire Protection District via Storyful
