There is now a new choice for facial injections besides Botox®. The FDA recently approved the new face wrinkle relaxer called Dysport. For years Botox was the only drug known to freeze and soften frown lines but the wrinkle fighter may have finally met its match.
Dr. Chiu explains that Dysport is almost exactly like Botox. The big differences in the way it is made. With Dysport, the protein is actually a little bit more pure. Patients at Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Inc report that Dysport results are almost immediate and will take effect as soon as a day later, while BoTox injections can take up to three to seven days. And Dysport patients report that Dysport lasts about five to six months in comparison to only three to four months. One of Dr. Chiu’s patients says she heard that this new drug is cheaper and lasts longer. She is getting injections to the forehead to remove crow's feet. She says Dysport did not even hurt as much at Botox. The injection just feels like a little pinch. Dr. Chiu says the only con about Dysport is that people do not know about it.
In 2011, about 5 million Botox® treatments were performed nationwide. This proves that both men and women are increasingly interested in attaining a more youthful, refreshed appearance. Derived from a purified protein made by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, Botox is a popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure that helps to reverse the obvious signs of aging. This is accomplished by limiting the activity of the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles to form. Many prospective patients express concern that this will cause a “frozen” look, but a very natural look can be achieved when the amount of Botox being injected is set at a controlled amount and is administered by a qualified medical professional.
Before the procedure, Dr. Chiu will assess the movement of your facial muscles to determine exactly where to inject the solution. Then using a narrow gauge needle, he will inject the solution to the desired areas. Considering the level of pain associated with Botox injections is minimal, the use of anesthesia is not required; however, the area may be numbed with an anesthetic cream or ice pack to relieve any possible discomfort.

The procedure may last between 10 and 15 minutes. There is no downtime, and patients can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure. He or she should avoid rubbing the area or laying down for a few hours after treatment. Results are usually noticeable within 3-5 days, while maximum effects typically become apparent within seven to 10 days.
