The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has announced that the classic and vintage cars will be permanently exempted from the ban that affects cars that are 15 years or older than that. Hindustan Times reports that, as per the new order, the vintage cars which comply with the Motor Vehicles Act would be allowed to ply on the roads for rallies, exhibitions and maintenance.
The bench headed by NGT Chairperson, Justice Swatanter Kumar referred to Rule 92 (2)(c) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and Section 59 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which grants an exemption to "antique or vintage" vehicles.
