A local transit employee died as an Amtrak commuter train derailed in Washington.
Zack Willhoite, who worked with the public transportation agency in Pierce County, wanted to be one of the train's first passengers.
But his hopes ended in tragedy, as Amtrak Cascades train 501 careened off the track as it passed over Interstate 5 near Dupont.
The crash happened along a new route connecting Olympia and Tacoma.
Willhoite was one of three people killed, though dozens more were injured.
