Rapper Cardi B describes how she came up with her name, and the answer might surprise you.
Cardi B broke it all down on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, saying, “You know what? My sister name is Hennessy, so everybody used to just call me Bacardi.”
According to Wikipedia, Cardi B’s real name is Belcalis Almanzar, but maybe Bacardi had more of a ring to it.
She continues to tell the Tonight Show, “Then it was my Instagram name, Bacardi, Bacardi B, but for some reason my Instagram kept getting deleted, and you know what I think Bacardi had something to do with it. So I just changed it to Cardi B.”
Well, thanks to hits like “Bodak Yellow,” it would seem that Cardi B made the right choice by dropping the similarities to the alcohol company.
