2017 was a violent year on American college campuses. Anti-fascists clashed with white supremacists on campuses all across the country. Progressive students protested conservative speakers. After a year marked by campus confrontations university administrators are preparing for a combative and potentially violent 2018 by beefing up security and examining the boundaries of their own commitment to free speech.
