South Korea Welcomes North Korea's Olympic Offer President Moon Jae-in welcomed Kim Jong Un's proposal to start dialogue so North Korea can participate in the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. The North Korean leader declared his desire to reach a resolution with the southern border, during his New Year's Day address. The 2018 Winter Olympics are set for February 9 and could be a means of easing tensions between the two states.
