Ice jams on the Connecticut River were painted in an orange glow at sunrise, as seen in this January 21 video taken by a local photographer.
On January 18, the ice dams that formed due to water build-ups behind blocks of ice prompted officials in Haddam, Connecticut, to declare an “emergency condition,” amid fears of flooding and ice-related damage, the Hartford Courant reported.
The Coast Guard had been trying to clear the sheets of ice, which measured up to 10 feet in diameter, according to NBC Connecticut. Credit: Instagram/bellabluect via Storyful
