Well, yesterday someone complained about my short little video saying that it was “silly” and contained no information about kayaking. He was right. It was meant to be silly! But I understand so, from now on, nothing but total seriousness from me. Those of you who know me know that I will stick to that promise.
I grew up in New Jersey. The only river I knew was the Hudson and, when I was a kid, you wouldn’t even put a toe in it for fear it would dissolve. The only boats you could see were freighters and tug boats. A kayak, in my mind, was something Eskimos used. The first time I saw a whitewater kayak was on TV during the Olympics about twelve years ago. Unfortunately, I was living in Florida at the time and there is not whitewater there, so it wasn’t something I even considered. It wasn’t until my wife and I found a whitewater “park and play” area that we even thought about it.
My next chapter discusses how I wound up getting involved in Whitewater kayaking and why “mature” people should consider doing the same.
The reason is simple, though - it is fun and a good workout.
I wrote my book to encourage “mature” people to investigate whitewater kayaking and to provide as much information as I can so they have a better idea of what to expect than I did when I began. Going forward, I’m going to present a lot of information that will speed up the process of getting into some real rapids.
After this, nothing but total serious technical information!
