SCARBOROUGH SHOAL, SOUTH CHINA SEA — The People's Republic got mad last week after one of Uncle Sam's destroyers sailed near an island China claims.
U.S. Navy officials says USS Hopper, a destroyer vessel, sailed near the Scarborough Shoal last week, reports Reuters.. The rocky outlet is claimed by Taiwan, China and the Philippines.
China says the vessel came with 12 nautical miles of the island and breached the country's sovereignty by doing so. The Chinese Navy reportedly ordered the USS Hopper to withdraw immediately after discerning its identity, reported Reuters.
The U.S. says it was an "innocent passage" and followed international law.
