Senator John McCain released a blistering condemnation of attacks against the nation’s law enforcement and justice divisions on Friday.

Senator John McCain released a blistering condemnation of attacks against the nation's law enforcement and justice divisions on Friday, as the release of the GOP memo loomed.   "Elected officials, including the president, must stop looking at this [Russia] investigation through the warped lens of politics and manufacturing partisan sideshows," McCain said in a statement. He further noted that the "latest attacks on the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests — no party's, no president's, only Putin's."  President Trump has long dismissed the investigations into alleged collusion between his campaign and Russia as a "witch hunt," and more recently has taken to accusing the FBI and the Department of Justice of being biased against Republicans. Among his latest comments on the matter is his Friday tweet, "The top Leadership and Investigators of the FBI and the Justice Department have politicized the sacred investigative process in favor of Democrats and against Republicans - something which would have been unthinkable just a short time ago."  According to the Washington Post, the memo "argues in part that the [Carter] Page warrant, issued under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), stemmed directly from information conveyed to the FBI by a former British intelligence officer named Christopher Steele. Steele was the author of the reports included in the infamous 'dossier,' which included multiple reports involving Page."
Critics are calling the memo nothing more than an effort to discredit both the Russia investigation and the FBI by asserting the bureau holds a bias against President Trump.  Meanwhile, on Friday morning, President Trump told reporters, "The memo was sent to Congress, it was declassified. Congress will do whatever they're going to do."
Shortly after his remarks, it was released to the public.
