Bus passengers stranded by heavy snow in Fukui prefecture, Japan, were rescued by the army on Thursday, February 8. The rescue came after hundreds of drivers and passengers spent a third night trapped in their vehicles by snow.
Authorities have continued their work to free about 800 vehicles on Japan National Route 8 in Awara and Sakai cities, in a line which stretched about six miles, according to the Japan Times.
These YouTube videos were filmed by a stranded bus passenger in Maruokacho Asahi, Sakai on Thursday, February 8. He was finally taken to safety on February 8. He has been uploading footage since he was first stranded on Tuesday, February 6. The video taker told Storyful he had been travelling from Osaka to Kanazawa when he became stranded by the snow.
His videos show trapped vehicles on Japan National Route 8. In the first video, food supplies are delivered to the stranded bus passengers. In the second video, the bus driver tells passengers they can leave the bus after several day of being stuck. In the third video, the bus passengers are seen getting into an army vehicle before being transported to safety.
Motorists have received some assistance from Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force, according to local news reports.
