In the U.S. state of Florida, at least 17 people were killed and at least 16 others wounded at a high school... when a former student opened fire Wednesday afternoon.
Officials say the suspect, 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, is in custody.
The shooting occured in Parkland,... a wealthy, low-crime city near Miami.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz, the gunman, had been expelled from the school for disiplinary problems and had made "disturbing" posts on social media before the attack.
Police say Cruz tried to blend in with the crowd and escape, but it didn't work.
He was later caught "without incident" a few kilometers from the campus.
Local reports say he was seen being put on a gurney,... some time later being wheeled into a hospital... and was then taken to the Sheriff's Office.
Several of the wounded are reportedly in critical condition and are undergoing surgery.
