In the streets of historic downtown Irondale, Alabama is the annual Whistle Stop Festival, named for the movie and book “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café” written by Irondale native, Fannie Flagg. This family friendly festival beside the railroad tracks, has arts and crafts, memorabilia from the city’s past and of course, fried green tomatoes and other Southern food favorites, free music, carnival rides, funnel cakes, face painting, pony rides and other fun activities. It's a must for railroad enthusiasts of all ages who get to see trains up close!
