Brian McDermott was understandably down after watching his struggling side fall to a 2-1 home defeat to fellow relegation battlers Aston Villa, in what proved to be his last game in charge of the Berkshire club. McDermott was sacked after a long association with Reading, which included taking them to the Premier League for only the second time in the clubs history.
