In celebration of Black History Month, Oakwood University choir The Aeolians are singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing." As the month of February comes to end, this video has gone viral. Their rendition of the Black National Anthem is absolutely beautiful.
If you've ever participated in a type of performing arts then you know how big of a deal it is to make competitions. The Aeolians are to compete for four days in the 2018 World Choir Games in South Africa. This international event is an amazing opportunity for choirs to compete and share their passion for music.
It's not all about the competition though. The choir group will be giving back through music education and will be serving the local communities in South Africa for 10 days, the main focus of their trip. The Aeolians have previously done mission work in the UK, Jamaica, Canada and all of the states they've competed in. The group is also getting ready to start a new initiative called "Aeolian Love Week" where they will be collaborating with an organization that caters to helping children.
Of course, flying from Alabama to South Africa is certainly not a cheap affair. They are looking to raise $350,000 so they can attend the competition. You can help in making this experience possible for these students by giving to the cause here!
