Reiterating that special category status was not only a sentiment but also the basic right of the people Andhra Pradesh, Andhra chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu accused the Centre of diverting the tax revenues collected from south to the development of northern states.

"ನಮ್ಮ ರಾಜ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ವಿಶೇಷ ಸ್ಥಾನ ಮಾನ ಕೇಳುವುದು ಭಾವನಾತ್ಮಕ ವಿಷಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇ ಅಲ್ಲ. ಅದು ಆಂಧ್ರದ ಜನರ ಮೂಲಭೂತ ಹಕ್ಕು" ಎಂದು ತೆಲುಗು ದೇಶಂ ಪಾರ್ಟಿ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷ ಹಾಗೂ ಆಂಧ್ರ ಮುಖ್ಯಮಂತ್ರಿ ಎನ್.ಚಂದ್ರಬಾಬು ನಾಯ್ಡು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇದೇ ವೇಳೆ ಗಂಭೀರ ಆರೋಪವೊಂದನ್ನು ಮಾಡಿರುವ ಅವರು, ದಕ್ಷಿಣದ ರಾಜ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವಾಗುವ ತೆರಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಉತ್ತರದ ರಾಜ್ಯಗಳ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿಗೆ ಬಳಸಲಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
