5. Not fallen, but placed under the sea, “Christ of the Abyss” is one of the more interesting underwater artistic statements of our time. This piece, which is one of three similar statues that stand underwater, lives off the coast of Malta and stands with hands open and face towards the heavens as if to offer a benediction of peace. The statue was placed in 1954 near the site where the first Italian to use and die in SCUBA gear was lost to the depths. The statue has only been out of the water for one year since its first being placed when corrosion led to necessary repairs from 2003-2004. Today the body of Christ is back in the body of water. \r

4. Roughly one hundred and sixty miles north of Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, a pit of boiling mud and fire two hundred and thirty feet wide by two hundred feet deep blazes. Dubbed The Door to Hell, this spot was a natural gas field once upon a war but the area collapsed into an underground cavern in 1971 and rather than risk methane gas spreading and poisoning surrounding area, the Soviets Geologists decided to set it on fire. This crater has been steadily burning ever since. Good call comrades! Really. Good call. This fascinating area has become a tourist hot spot for wild desert romps and camping excursions. \r

3. The Spotted Lake is revered as a sacred site by the Native Okanagan people in British Columbia in Canada. In the summertime water in the like evaporates and a believed three hundred and sixty five mineral pools of varying size are left behind. One for each day of the year. Each unique bath varies in color and composition from the others and have been used as healing waters by the Okanagan. The waters do indeed have healing effects thanks to this place being the highest natural concentration of magnesium sulfate which we know as epsom salt. Epsom salt as in the healing substance Mr. Miyagi had Daniel soak his battle worn body in to prepare for the trials of life. The lake can be seen from a nearby highway just northwest of the small tribal town called Osoyoos but tourists are asked not to trespass on the sacred land. Nice going people We see you. Trespassing all over that sacred land.\r

2. Legend has it that a mysterious people that inhabited this region in Ireland built beautiful structures more than 3,000 years before the pyramids of Egypt were erected. Where are those people now? These Irish folk who dont like being found and create ornate treasures? These Irish folk Im hard pressed to try and justify as anyone other than mystical magical clover loving Leprechauns? It is believed that they still exist living away from prying eyes elsewhere in Ireland. This remote and tranquil section of the world is a mile wide and high. Dubbed the Valley of Love, this piece of art known as the Memorial of Joy lies at the top of the valley still in excellent condition with a fully functional interior today. Still structurally sound and a stunning vision, ‘twould truly be a sight to behold. Okay, this ones a fake created by a brilliant photoshopper going by the name Fangfingers on DeviantArt. But can you blame me for wanting to believe in some y leprechaun art? \r

1.I wish this one was a fake. This harrowing isle is stone cold f. According to local oral tradition a girl was found drowned long ago on this island in Mexico under mysterious circumstances. She was found by Don Julian Santana Barrera who was the caretaker of the island. He was unable to save her and distraught, found a doll in nearby canals. He thought the doll may have belonged to the girl and hung the doll from a tree as a sign of respect and support for the spirit of the child. Shortly after dolls of all kinds began to wash up on the shore of the island which inhabited less than ten people. It is believed that the dolls are possessed by the spirits of dead girls and Julian spent fifty years of his life collecting and securing the dolls all over the creepy and widely accepted as dreadfully haunted island. Some doubt the validity of the legend but many are faithful in their belief in the mystical oddity of the place. This belief was solidified in 2001 when Julian himself was found dead, drowned in the same spot where he found the girl a lifetime before.
