Alex Stamos, Facebook's chief information security officer, is leaving the company as it grapples with a storm of controversies relating to its role in spreading misinformation. Stamos favored being more transparent with the public about how the 2-billion member social network was misused to spread propaganda during the 2016 presidential election, according to the report which cites anonymous sources familiar with the matter. That position put Stamos at odds with Sheryl Sandberg and other executives inside the company. Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
