Is
Blake Shelton getting into more than a rivalry with new coach
Kelly Clarkson on NBC's
The Voice? Sources have revealed to
OK! exclusively that they may play nice on screen but off screen is much different, as they are reportedly at war with one another!
“They take jabs at each other during filming, and on TV it comes across as nothing more than playful bickering,” claimed an inside source. “But there are whispers that backstage, their spats can get vicious. They dismiss it as friendly competition, but it’s pretty clear there’s real tension.”
Blake is an original judge on the hit reality-competition program with
Adam Levine, both appearing on all 14 seasons, while Kelly is the new kid on the block alongside returning judge
Alicia Keys, who rounds out the panel. Although Blake and Adam have had their playful spats in the past, the “Came Here to Forget” crooner feels threatened by Kelly after she tweeted “Watch out Shelton, I’m coming to win!” as well as her attempts to beat him out for more country artists.
“Blake has started to feel like Kelly should be more grateful to him,” claimed the insider, who explained that Blake (who happens to employ Kelly’s husband
Brandon Blackstock as a manager) initially brought her into the fold to mentor his team on season 2. “He says she wouldn’t have even been considered for a coaching spot if it weren’t for him.”
He has several other problems with the “Miss Independent” singer as well. Blake “doesn’t like the way she’s been dominating the show with her big personality,” the insider revealed. “He gets annoyed when anyone points out what a breath of fresh air she is.” Things have gotten so bad between the two that the source claimed that he was trying to lure every member of Kelly’s team to his record label as a suggestion, which allegedly had her “briefly in tears.”
Don’t count Kelly out in this war between the two of them, however. "Blake is always pointing out that Kelly ‘has no experience’ on the show, but she’s not the least bit intimidated by him,” said the source. “They’ve started taking this contest very personally.”
“Now the claws are out!” the source concluded. Talk about some judgmental drama!
