The general secretary of the leftist CPI (M) party, Prakash Karat, has announced a loose coalition of regional and leftist parties called Third Front to fight India's general election. Ahead of the launch, he told the FT's Victor Mallet that stopping Narendra Modi from becoming prime minister was the group's main aim but that they did not yet have a common platform of policies.
