Syracuse University Suspends Fraternity Over ‘Extremely Racist’ Video The university suspended its branch of the Theta Tau fraternity after disturbing videos surfaced showing members using racial slurs and imitating sex acts. Kent Syverud, the school’s chancellor, addressed the video in a statement to students, faculty and staff on Wednesday. Videos showing this offensive behavior have surfaced online. They include words and behaviors that are extremely racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, sexist, and hostile to people with disabilities. I am appalled and shaken by this and deeply concerned for all members of our community. The conduct is deeply harmful and contrary to the values and community standards we expect of our students. While Syracuse has not released any of the footage, the school’s independent newspaper, The Daily Orange, was able to obtain and post one of the videos. According to local news station WSYR, hundreds of students protested outside of the chancellor’s house, demanding all the videos be released.
