A senior U.S. diplomat in charge of North Korean issues is in Seoul ahead of the diplomacy-charged week here on the Korean Peninsula.
Upon landing on Sunday,... Susan Thornton, acting U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, said North Korea's recent announcement that it would stop its nuclear and missiles test was "very positive."
She also emphasized the need for close coordination with U.S. allies in the run-up to the historic summits planned with the North.
During her three-day stay, Thornton is to meet with senior officials in Seoul, including Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and top nuclear envoy Lee Do-hoon.
