Singapore’s last polar bear was euthanized at the Singapore Zoo in Mandai on Wednesday, April 25, despite extensive efforts to save his life, the zoo announced.
The bear, named Inuka, suffered from “age-related ailments such as arthritis, dental issues and occasional ear infections for the past five years,” a zoo spokesman said.
Zoo vets decided to euthanize the 27-year-old bear after his declining health failed to significantly improve over the last month, despite various treatments. Further treatment would have “prolonged his suffering,” Dr Cheng Wen-Haur told Channel NewsAsia.
