A surgeon in London has called President Trump's knife crime comments, "ridiculous."

A UK-based surgeon has slammed President Trump's comments about knife-related crime in London while defending the US gun laws.
"I recently read a story that in London, which has unbelievably tough gun laws, a once very prestigious hospital is like a war zone for horrible stabbing wounds," Trump said while addressing the crowd at the National Rifle Association Leadership Forum on Friday. "They don't have guns. They have knives and instead there's blood all over the floors of this hospital. They say it's as bad as a military war zone hospital. Knives, knives, knives."
The president appears to be referring to a Daily Mail story.
According to The Guardian, the piece included "comments from Martin Griffiths, a lead trauma surgeon at the Royal London hospital, in Whitechapel, who likened the spate of stabbing victims coming through the doors to scenes in a military hospital."
Trump's remarks prompted Professor Karim Brohi, the director of London's major trauma system and also a trauma surgeon at The Royal London Hospital, to issue a response.
"There is more we can all do to combat this violence, but to suggest guns are part of the solution is ridiculous," Brohi said in a statement. "Gunshot wounds are at least twice as lethal as knife injuries and more difficult to repair. We are proud of our world-leading service and to serve the people of London."
Griffiths also reacted to Trump's comments by suggesting that the US president had misinterpreted his statement.
"Happy to invite Mr Trump to my (prestigious) hospital to meet with our mayor and police commissioner to discuss our successes in violence reduction in London," Griffiths tweeted.
