From early May, Denmark will be capturing the undivided attention of ice hockey fans the world over. Because the country will be hosting the 82nd men's IIHF World Championship from May 4 - 20, 2018. This prestigious tournament will see the top 16 teams in the world - headed by Canada, the birthplace of ice hockey - battle it out for the gold medal. The tournament will be hosted by the Danish capital Copenhagen and the city of Herning. No fewer than six EC Red Bull Salzburg players will be joining the Austrian national team in its quest for goals and wins.
Since June 2015, it has been EC Red Bull Salzburg's mission to convey the power of ice hockey by shooting footage from the player's perspective. The result is some incredible video material that puts the viewer in the thick of the action.
Together with ServusTV, a partnership was formed with Spanish start-up First Vision, whose tiny on-body camera is capable of capturing exclusive action footage.
Following initial trials in the winter of 2015, the camera was used in anger for the first time during an Erste Bank Eishockey league game on 17.01.2016 (EC Red Bull Salzburg vs. HDD Olimpija Ljubljana). Spectators at the Salzburg Eisarena were able to watch a live feed of the player's perspective on the arena's video cube.
During a league game against HCB Südtirol Alperia on 09.12.2016, Alexander Pallestrang (defender for the Red Bulls, #6) became the first player to score a goal while wearing First Vision's POV camera.
