I head deeper into the woods away from the rocky hill. I discovered rock piles, or cairns, and a stone wall complex from at least the colonial era. The debate is unresolved regarding the makers and purposes of the stone piles. Some say these were nothing but field clearings left behind by colonial farmers to make the land suitable for agriculture. Others say these were built by Native Americans for ceremonial purposes.
