Jimmy Carter joked about the crowd size during his commencement speech at Liberty University.
Former President Jimmy Carter seemed to have a little fun at President Trump's expense Saturday with a comment about crowd size.
During his commencement address at Liberty University, Carter said, "This is a wonderful crowd."
He then shared that the school's president, Jerry Falwell Jr., had told him beforehand that "it's even bigger...than it was last year."
After the audience reacted with some laughter and applause, Carter joked, "I don't know if President Trump will admit that or not."
Trump had been the commencement speaker last year, and while there was reportedly some controversy about his appearance at the school, this year's higher attendance figures were likely due to an exceptionally large graduating class of more than 20,000 students.
Carter's comment pokes fun at Trump's frequent claims about his inauguration crowd size.
The current president and his team have been vocal about the number of people who witnessed the event; in fact, former White House press secretary Sean Spicer once declared that it was "the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period."
However, estimates have placed the figure at a fraction of Barack Obama's first term inauguration crowd.
