Seoul's trade minister has been in Europe for the last week in a bid to ally fears of steel dumping in response to new U.S. tariffs.
The trade ministry said Kim Hyun-chong had met representatives from Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and the European Commission... after it emerged in March that the EU had launched an investigation to consider safeguard measures on steel imports.
Kim expressed concerns the requirements for such an investigation had not been met under World Trade Organization rules, and that any safeguard measures could also negatively affect European consumers and businesses.
He also stressed steel that's usually exported to the U.S. would unlikely end up in Europe as they are not the same type.
