The number of Koreans growing their own food at home has been on the rise in recent years.
With a few seeds, some pots and a little T-L-C, anyone can do it,... it tastes great and more importantly it's really healthy.
With that in mind,.... the government is aiming to encourage more people in Korea to get into the home-gardening hobby by giving them a starter pack of seeds.
Cho Sung-min has more.
Amid growing concerns of food safety and rising prices of produce, many Korean households are choosing to grow their own vegetables.
Data proves there is a clear rise in the number of apartment residents who are starting their own vegetable gardens in their living space.
The Rural Development Administration, in an effort to foster people's interest in home-gardening…said it is launching a program to provide ginseng sprouts seedlings to people who wish to start growing their own vegetables at home.
The administration said ginseng seedlings were selected for a good reason.
"Ginseng sprouts grow easily even without plenty of sunlight or during the cold winter season. Watching those seedlings sprout and grow is a good source of inspiration for beginners, leading them to try growing more challenging vegetables."
Growing ginseng sprouts also requires minimum effort and investment. Just pick a small container, fill it with soil, place the seedling, and water it once a week.
And you can start enjoying your very own ginseng root as soon as three weeks
The administration said they would start dispatching the seedlings as soon as they are ready.
And said it also plans to develop various seedlings more suitable to grow in homes.
