An alleged Australian leader of an international drug syndicate was arrested in Sydney’s east on Thursday, June 7.

Detectives from the Strike Force Bergmark had worked with Australian Border Force to intercept several dozen suspicious packages containing ketamine, ecstacy and cocaine from Europe this year.

Police raided a unit on Diamond Bay Road, Vaucluse, and seized $70,000 cash, $350,000 worth of cryptocurrency, cocaine, computers, mobile phones and a diamond ring on Thursday. A man, 33, was arrested and police would allege that he “is the head of the Australian arm of the syndicate and distributed illicit drug packages across Australia”.

He was taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with 45 counts, including importing commercial quantities of border controlled drugs, supplying prohibited drugs and directing a criminal group. Credit: NSW Police Force via Storyful
