An elderly woman with Alzheimer’s disease was sighted by a police helicopter on June 12 leading to her rescue. She had been lost for several hours in bushy terrain in Karrakup, Western Australia, after failing to return from a walk.
Western Australia Police reported they received a call just after 1:30 pm from the 80-year-old’s concerned husband when she did not come home from her walk. After deploying ground and air searches, police in the PolAir helicopter were able to spot the woman wandering along a dirt track and direct people on the ground to her location.
Due to the woman’s condition and the rough terrain, the helicopter airlifted the her to the Police Air Wing base where an ambulance took her to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment. Credit: WA Police Force via Storyful
