Families gathered inside the Manhattan offices of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office on June 21 to protest against President Donald Trump’s ‘zero-tolerance’ immigration policy.
On June 20, after facing mounting pressure, Trump signed an executive order to end the policy of separating children from parents attempting to cross the US-Mexico border illegally. Parents awaiting prosecution for immigration violations will now be held with their children in federal custody. Hundreds of children remain in federal shelters after having been separated from their parents since the policy took effect in May.
