More than 400 Syrians displaced by fighting left Arsal, Lebanon, to return to territory controlled by the Syrian government north of Damascus on June 28.
They are the first group to return from Syria to Lebanon under an agreement between Lebanese security forces and the Syrian government. The Syrian news agency said they would be returning to villages in al-Qalamoun, located northwest of Damascus, where many fled fighting in 2013 and 2014.
In April, Syrian government forces conducted an offensive on opposition militia in al-Qalamoun, retaking control of the area.
