Work on the steel flyover at Shivananda Circle along Hare Krishna Road will be over in the next eight months, BBMP officials have said. However, it now appears that some modifications during construction have caused the length of the flyover to be exceeded by 167 metres. This comes even as activists and citizens oppose the project saying that it is a waste of public money. The project now costs a total of Rs 42 crores and those who oppose it believe that the money could have been spent to revamp and subsidise public transport instead. The Shivananda circle steel flyover project was proposed after citizens ran a successful campaign against the Ballari road flyover project, which was finally shelved. With citizens themselves objecting to these projects, the question is why do legislators want to go ahead with them?
