12 Russians Indicted by Mueller for Hacking Democrats in 2016 Election Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced charges against the intelligence officers on Friday. They are accused of hacking into the computer networks of three Democratic organizations and then releasing the stolen emails on the internet. The hacked organizations are the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton. The stolen emails were released months before the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. Rosenstein said he had briefed President Trump on the indictment. He added that there was no allegation the hacking altered any vote count or that any Americans were knowingly in communication with the Russian officers.
