The North Atlantic island nation is also restricting the types of positions that can be offered to workers from outside Europe. David Metcalf of the Migration Advisory council explained the new restrictions to BBC Radio. Quote: “In order for the employer to hire somebody from outside Europe, they have got to meet three hurdles. First of all, the job has got to be skilled, secondly it's got to be in shortage and third it's got to be sensible to bring the person in." Under the new rules, non-European doctors are barred from working in hospitals except as consultants in specific fields of medicine. In education, only math and science teachers will be accepted. Chefs are okay, along with senior care workers, ballet dancers, vets, sheep shearers and hovercraft officers. No, really. Foreign workers in the United Kingdom are required to speak English
