Trump Administration May Increase Chinese Tariffs to 25 Percent The initial ten percent tariff proposed on $200 billion of Chinese goods was dismissed on Monday by the President as weak. The White House announced
on Wednesday that it was
considering the tariff increase. A final decision on the tariff isn't expected until September. Trade talks between the U.S. and China have stalled in recent days, Industry analysts also say the increase may be a compensation for the recent decline of the Chinese yuan. A weaker Chinese currency means Chinese goods are more competitive. But it's widely assumed the proposed tariff increase is risky for both the U.S. and global economy.
