For the first time, Samsung Electronics has surpassed Apple in terms of profitability.
Apple's earnings report for the second quarter of 53-point-3 billion U.S. dollars in sales and 12-point-6 billion in operating profits.
That's a ratio of 23-point-7 percent.
But the Korean tech giant in the second quarter posted a margin of 25-point-4 percent.
Samsung was already creeping up on Apple in the first quarter, behind by just two tenths of a percent.
Samsung's profits in the second quarter were driven more by its chip business than smartphones.
It posted sales of 52 billion dollars... and profits of 13-point-3 billion.
